Ready to up your surface decoration game? Join Jessica (@sable.ceramics) in an intermediate class for potters who know how create their own clay forms but looking for more options and techniques to elevate and personalize their work. In this 6-week course, you'll learn how to utilize underglaze and other surface decoration methods in your practice with color theory, underglaze principles and application, screenprinting your own underglaze transfers, water etching, sgraffito, and finishing options with glaze. We will meet every Tuesday evening from 6-8pm for 6 weeks. Come with greenware ready to decorate as we dive into multiple surface decoration methods. We will make a personalized color wheel test tile to practice color theory, mixing colors, and application which can act as a guide throughout your own practice in the future. You'll learn a handful of other applications, then work on your own personal projects throughout the rest of course. Outside of our weekly class, you will have practice time in the studio to create work to use in class or continue to work on your current projects. You can use this practice time however you wish, and we recommend you do!

This is a course for potters with prior experience and can create your own work without assistance. This is not a wheel or hand-building oriented class. The focus is decoration of existing work and how to utilize underglaze, carving, wax resist and transfers to add illustrations, painting, imagery, or text.
